Sunday’s upcoming issue of PARADE features a great interview with this year’s Oscar host, Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane, who spoke to PARADE about his big hopes for a surprising Oscar night, the future of Family Guy, and more.
“The worst thing to happen at the Oscars would be if nothing happened,” MacFarlane, 39, tells PARADE. “You want something unscripted, something to riff on, something kinda out there.”
Nobody familiar with MacFarlane’s outrageous brand of humor is expecting business as usual at this year’s awards. “You want Sacheen Littlefeather to come up and accept an award,” MacFarlane says, recalling other classic Oscar moments. As host, he’s looking to “find a balance somewhere between Billy Crystal and Ricky Gervais,” he says, though it was former emcee Hugh Jackman whose advice hit closest to home. “He told me, ‘Don’t be too kind. Shake it up a little bit.’
Here are some more highlights:
MacFarlane on being his own worst critic.
“I think at times I read too much of my own press. I wish I was better at taking in how great my life is, but that’s surprisingly elusive. I tend to be very hard on myself and insecure about failing no matter what happens.”
At this point MacFarlane thinks the end of Family Guy might be near.
“How much more is there to find out about these characters? You don’t want to start concocting things like what if Pete finds out he’s half Chinese. I’ve never heard of a TV show that after nine seasons goes into its best years. It would be arrogant to assume that we’ll be the first.”
MacFarlane on the rumor of a movie version of Family Guy.
“I think at some point that’ll happen.”
Though he typically keeps a low profile, MacFarlane discusses dating.
“I’m wide open to getting married, but actors are not easy people to date. You end up sharing that person with this other mistress that is their career. I very much like the traditional courtship method of making a date. That’s what they do in normal places, but Hollywood’s not normal.”

Princess Stephanie with her son Louis Ducruet and daughters Pauline Ducruet (blue dress) and Camille Gottlieb (pink dress) attend the religious ceremony of the Royal Wedding of her brother Prince Albert II of Monaco to Charlene Wittstock in the main courtyard at Prince’s Palace Monte Carlo, Monaco this weekend. Known years back as a wild child, the youngest daughter of the late movie star Grace Kelly and Prince Rainier of Monaco who even dated Rob Lowe, looks slim and chic as her long time bachelor brother finally ties the knot. The couple wed in front of family, friends, and famous guests reportedly including supermodel Naomi Campbell, former James Bond star Sir Roger Moore, and designer Karl Lagerfeld. Thousands of fans watched the nuptials on giant screens erected outside the venue in Monte Carlo as the prince, 53, exchanged vows with his 33-year-old South African bride, who was dressed in a pale blue Chanel suit jacket and trousers. The civil ceremony was followed by a Catholic Church service on Saturday. The celebrations got underway on Thursday night when rockers The Eagles performed for the couple and guests. Prince Albert and his bride met at a swimming competition in Monaco 11 years ago. Their wedding is the first for a reigning prince in Monaco since Albert’s late parents, Grace Kelly and Prince Rainier, married in 1956.
I guess stuff did get between Nick and his Calvin.
The 22 year-old model is penning a tell-all memoir about their relationship tentatively called Obsession: ‘My Life With Calvin Klein’ plus I think he’s getting a reality show. Of course he is. And he also has a new boyfriend.
The most recent Page Six Magazine – free inside the New York Post and online at http://www.nypost.com/pagesixmag – features an interview with Calvin Klein’s ex-lover Nick Gruber, 48 years Klein’s junior.
Here are some excerpts:
On Klein’s suspicion that Gruber had cheated:
“[Calvin] picked me up in his car, drove me down to the Holiday Inn in Chelsea, and we went downstairs in the basement of the hotel. He made me take a lie-detector test. I passed it. And then, you know, things were much better. But I mean, what kind of partner would make you take a lie detector test?”
On showing Klein the world’s more pedestrian experiences:
“I made Calvin go to McDonald’s and have a Big Mac, and he asked if they had it medium rare. He took a bite, and he was like, ‘Ugh, what’s this?’”
On his 2011 Bentley Supersport, which Klein bought for him:
“It was my baby. [But Calvin] never liked it, and called it, in his words, ‘a Chanel handbag.’ He called it that because the stitching inside was quilted. When we broke up, he took it back.”
On being a modern-day Casanova:
“I was the first man [Calvin] fell in love with. I don’t know why, but there’s, like, something about me that attracts everyone. I have a nickname called Romeo. I get every girl, and even guys. Something about me draws them all in.”
On being an “extreme badass at heart”:
“I used to have a car that went 205 miles per hour. Now I’ve got a motorcycle that goes 186. I’ll be racing it at night. I have an appetite for danger.”
Page Six Magazine also talks to Gruber’s new boyfriend, John Luciano, grand-nephew of mobster Lucky Luciano about their relationship:
“He craves something, I think, from older men,” Luciano says. “The most intimidating thing is having sex with your boyfriend and pulling down his pants and his ex-boyfriend’s name is staring you right in the face.”
