Philanthropist and author Jean Shafiroff hosted her Annual Bastille Day Luncheon at the upscale, stylish, art-adorned restaurant Michael’s New York. The distinguished guests enjoyed a specialty menu in the private dining room that was decorated with French flags in honor of Bastille Day.

The Bastille prison was a symbol of the absolute and arbitrary power of Louis XVI’s Regime. By capturing this symbol, the people signaled that the king’s authority should be limited by a separation of powers.
