The Lang Lang International Music Foundation kicked off their 2018 gala campaign with a small private concert Tuesday in Southampton at Christopher Burch’s home hosted by David Hryck.

Burch, as he stood among magnificent roses, hydrangea, and phlox quipped, ”Lang Lang and I have spent all day gardening. I want to thank him for his help with the flowers. Just kidding”. The director of the foundation, Leszek Barwinski-Brown, explained their mission, providing training for great young musicians worldwide, as well as in-school musical education in both the US and China.  He then introduced two of the Foundation’s brilliant young discoveries, Gina Resigner and Maxim Lando.  Then Lang Lang took to the outdoor stage and played a preview of his concert opening the Tanglewood Festival this Friday.

Guests included Hillary Cooper, Shayne Doty, Lucia Hwong Gordon, Joseph Hernandez, Judith Hoffman with her son Jonathan, Cheri Kaufman, Patricia Raynes, Emily Reifel, Melissa Smith,  Jean Sharifoff, Vivienne Tam, and Amanda Taylor. Dr. Ruth, who sat in the small concert’s first row, applauded wildly.

The Lang Lang International Music Foundation’s 10th Annual Gala is October 10th and chaired this year by John Paulson, with  co-chairs by Judith-Ann Corrente, David M. Hryck, Huda Alkhamis-Kanoo, Bruno Wang, Joan and Sandy Weill, Shirley Young and Ann Ziff.
