Last Thursday, Doubles marked its 40th Anniversary and businessman and investor Ken Langone best known for co-founding The Home Depot, and wife Elaine celebrated along with the creme-de-la-creme of New York Society and New York Charitable circles.
Muffie Potter Aston and Ashley McDermott, Claudia Overstrom, and Barbara Taylor Bradford came down the infamous red staircase (known as “deep throat” when it opened in ’76) and were welcomed to the black tie gala by Club Chairman Wendy Carduner.
At the beginning of the event Wendy thanked the members for their friendship and support and also thanked the staff for their many years of dedication. Wendy surprised everyone present when she said that over 400 members have maintained their memberships for over 25 years… many of whom were present that evening. Muffie Potter Aston then toasted Wendy for being the devoted ‘guiding light’ of the Club. Following dinner, guests filled the dance floor to the amazing sounds of Bob Hardwick and his Orchestra.
Guests including Geoffrey Bradfield, Kathy and Othon Prounis, and Mark Gilbertson enjoyed cocktails under the pearl pink balloon-decorated ceiling and arches before heading to the dining room for a three-course dinner of Crabmeat and Mousse of Avocado, Horse Radish Crust Salmon or Filet Mignon and a delicious Dark Chocolate and Vanilla Chocolate Chip Gelato Torte prepared by Chef Steve Mellina on tables festooned with silver star confetti and pink roses.
