Outspoken funny man Russell Brand joined a group of east London residents protesting against rising rent prices at the New Era Estate in Hoxton.

Originally built as affordable housing for workers, tenants in the New Era estate say they face homelessness after it was bought out by Westbrook Partners, a US Investment firm who plan to refurbish the apartments and rent them out at full market value.

The demonstration march took place at Westbrook Partners London Headquarters in Berkeley Square.

With almost 100 families facing the prospect of eviction, a petition is out urging the government to step in and block the move.

According to one,  “It’s forcing ordinary, working-class people out of London.”

London has become the most expensive city in the world to live in.
