vsThe New York Jets have released QB Mark Sanchez and signed QB Michael Vick.

It’s been a long few years with Sanchez at the helm and it just wasn’t working. They released him just in time to avoid a 2 million dollar roster cost.

Wow.

What a week for NY sports.

First, NY Knicks announce signing legendary Phil Jackson to the arduous task of turning the struggling team around and now former Philadelphia and Atlanta quarterback Michael Vick is signed to a one-year deal to play for the NY Jets.

Vick will join second-year quarterback Geno Smith, who started 16 games as a rookie last season. Now these two can fight for the number one spot.

“I’d like to thank Mark for everything he’s done for this team and me personally,” Head Coach Rex Ryan said. “We were rookies together and had some early success, becoming the first rookie head coach/quarterback to go to back-to-back championship games. We experienced a lot together and I really appreciate Mark, he’s a great player, a great teammate and I wish him nothing but the best.”

Vick comes with his own share of offensive exploits. Back in 2007 he pleased guilty to conspiracy in a dog-fighting ring.

Fingers crossed for the Jets.
