Lisa+Lisa++Cult+Jam+2Ever wonder what happened to 80’s pop diva Lisa Lisa?

On Wednesday, November 6th at 8PM/ET, TV One’s Image Award-winning series Unsung will profile Lisa Lisa & Cult Jam, which consisted of singer Lisa Velez, guitarist/bassist Alex “Spanador” Moseley and drummer/keyboardist Mike Hughes.

As one of the greatest R&B/pop divas to come out of the 1980’s music scene, Lisa Lisa scored a series of hits with her band “Cult Jam” – producing five albums that sealed their fame in New York City’s thriving musical scene.

The youngest of 10 children born in the Hell’s Kitchen section of New York City, Lisa aspired to be a singer early in her teens.

At the age of 13, Lisa would sneak out to nightclubs where she met Mike Hughes of “Cult Jam.”  Hughes introduced her to rap band “Full Force,” and they were impressed by Lisa’s angelic voice ultimately deciding to launch her to super-stardom.

As the first Latin artist to make it big nationwide, Lisa Lisa is seen as a pioneer for Latin artists who have entered the English-language market having scored numerous top 10 hits with songs like “I Wonder If I Take You Home,” “All Cried Out,” “Let The Beat Hit Em”, “Lost In Emotion”, “Little Jackie” and “Head to Toe”.

In this episode Unsung will shed light on the rise-and-fall stories of the group.
