NvS

Emerging R&B/Dance diva NvS is going to grab your attention to say the least. After you listen to a few songs off her debut EP ‘Who is NvS’ with production by Midi Mafia and Teddy Riley due out any minute, you will surely get a taste of where she’s coming from. She’s got that music swagger than only a natural can ride and she’s cruising all genres including hip-hop, reggae and soul.

With her Juno Award nomination and her Best New Artist at the Canadian Radio Awards under her belt, it’s no surprise that famed producer Teddy Riley is in the picture.

Speaking on the phone from Toronto where she’s been working with two local producers she told me, “I’m heading to Atlanta soon to work with Teddy Riley.”

Big score I say.

That would be Teddy Riley, Grammy award winning record producer/singer/songwriter/music biz guru, credited with having a massive impact and seminal influence on the formation of contemporary R&B, hip-hop, soul and pop since the 1980’s. His resume is A-list endless. The odds are, if you’re humming a melodic tune, he was a part of it.

“I’m excited to collaborate with NvS, a self-contained artist with a very warm, sultry voice,” said Teddy Riley to Globe Newswire. “She’s a visionary who knows exactly what she wants to be translated through her music. As a Producer, I maximize her vision through proper orchestration of song structure and quality vocal and music production.”

The lovely young talent with the old soul has been singing for some time.

“I used to wake up in the morning and sing at the top of my lungs. When I was a little kid, I used to wake up with my mom and she would bring me down to my brother’s room and I would sing at the top of my lungs.”

Always writing, “I was in the studio all night.” Focused and classically trained, mom would enroll her in voice classes and she would then go on to train with an incredible vocal teacher in New York City.

Creative and passionate, NvS has dual music personalities: Naughty Nirv and Peggy Pigtails, with all her songs reflecting a different side of her personality. Each song explores a personal experience, speaking to the value of emotional connections between lovers and friends.

“My mom used to put my hair in pigtails, so Peggy Pigtails. I discovered my inner child a few years ago when I was in method acting. I discovered it at a time when I had lost my younger brother and I had honestly lost my passion for music. So I kind of delved into acting a little bit. My mom used to put my hair in pigtails. And I kind of created this person.”

Feeling a bit naughty yourself? Check out her Naughy Nirv inspired debut single “Between My Thighs” which should surely have a leg up on the competition.   “The DJ reception is absolutely insane. They love the record” said the provoking singer.

It showcases a domineering and sultrier side and gets cheeky and looks to push the envelope. “When you’re passionate and so strong in your beliefs and your opinions you kind of get labeled as a bitch.”

And I guess that brings us to another one of her tunes ‘Bitcholous’.
