When I went to see ‘Rock of Ages’ the movie this week I didn’t know what to expect. I had seen the play on Broadway and it was fantastic.

One and only actor Tom Cruise a long-haired rock star? Well apparently so. He plays wasted the entire time so his acting is pretty much a throwback to those 80’s rockers who rocked us gals on stage and then proceeded to rock us backstage. (Theoretically speaking, of course.)

Then there’s chubby and long-haired Alec Baldwin playing a has- been rocker/pushover and owner of the hottest club in Hollywood, who spends most of his time with sidekick British bad boy Russell Brand, which seeing the two of them together is worth the price of admission alone.

Up and coming starlet Julianne Hough, the gorgeous and outrageously talented dancer from ABC’s ‘DWTS’ and girlfriend of mega-wealthy Ryan Seacrest, who plays small town girl trying to make it in big bad Hollywood, is quickly making her way up the superstar ladder.

Catherine Zeta Jones, who had a rough year struggling with bipolar disorder and husband Michael Douglas’ throat cancer battle, once again brings her Tony and Oscar winning singing and dancing A-game.

Malin Akerman and Paul Giamatti as usual stand out, and newcomer Diego Boneta is definitely going places.

It’s far from the best movie I’ve ever seen but it could be one of the best 80’s concerts.

Opens Friday, June 15.
