Just when you thought you had tasted the best authentic straight-from-Italy thin crust pizza you ever had, in comes Granduca di Sicilia on West 24th street to blow your mind.

The opening party at the new trattoria and pizzeria was so crowded that you would have thought the guest list was ‘Survivor’ castoffs. Trying to navigate through the crowd slightly left me with some tomato sauce and red wine accoutrements that added a touch of color to accessorize my outfit but I kind of think it was worth it.

The gorgeous space of old world Italian charm with Sicilian décor and modern touch was as inviting as the Sicilian inspired dishes served buffet style including spaghetti and meatballs, various heavenly looking pastas, chicken and fish dishes, risottos, salads, crunchy garlic bread and of course the grand dame, the pizza.

They couldn’t make the brick oven pizza fast enough in the absolutely dazzling straight from Sicily oven beauty. Burning at a temp of 650, the chef rolled the specially made dough, ladled a little tomato sauce, topped it with some fancy ‘grand’ cheese (I think is what he said) and finished it off in the oven for roughly 4 minutes. It came out and literally disappeared into guest’s mouths instantaneously.

Remind me next time not to wear white. Delicious. Note to self, must go again.
