Newly minted New York Jets backup quarterback Tim Tebow gave us reporters a late night 11:30pm conference call to answer the many questions surrounding his exciting new gig in New York.

“I’m happy to be a Jet” said the ex-Denver Broncos quarterback who sounded just as excited as kid in a NY candy store. “I’m here to help the team anyway I can.”

What that means who knows but the new Jet said it about ten times.

Accordingly, Tebow will be back-up quarterback to #1 quarterback Mark Sanchez. Say what?

Has he spoke to his new teammate?

A giggling Tebow said, “He called me and left a voice mail message. I had so many.  I called him back and we talked. We had a chance to catch up a little bit. We’ve been blessed to get to know each other the last few years and I have a lot of respect for him. I look forward to helping the Jets anyway I can.”

Don’t you think this is a bit of a competitive situation?

“I think we are both competitive. My goal is to push him to get better and me to get better. He is such a classy guy and handles himself so well and I’m very honored to call him my team mate. My goal is to be able to develop and help the team any way I can. This is a great opportunity and a great challenge. I am so excited to be a Jet and be on a very good team with great players, great coaches with a great fan base.. I am very excited.”

As long as he doesn’t push him out the door I guess.

Finally, after throwing in a few more “I’ll be working hard and finding ways to help the team,” New York’s newest paparazzi mark who’s already making all the gossip columns, ended with; “Thank you so much. God bless.”

This should make for an interesting season.
