Superstar Jodie Foster who just premiered her third directorial effort, told the Hollywood Reporter, “I’ve reached that point where I don’t want to act very much anymore. I am much more interested in holding off on acting, after 45 years as an actor. It’s a long period of time to do the same thing.” Jodie had the luck of the Irish or so she thought when casting great friend and pal, box office gold Mel Gibson for the lead role in ‘The Beaver.’ However, much to her chagrin, his crazed meltdown and lunacy hit the presses on the last day of filming. So here she is with a spectacular performance from a great actor who no one wants to see. Early reviews on Gibson’s performance as a depressed father who begins communicating through a hand puppet  have been stellar and the premiere at SXSW was received with adoring praise. ‘The Beaver,’ which also has Jodie starring as Mel’s wife who can’t deal with his behavior, is scheduled to open wide May 20.
