Country superstar and Tennessee born Kenny Chesney is a sports fanatic who grew up idolizing University of Tennessee’s first African American quarterback Condredge Holloway. Chesney told me, “Growing up I didn’t see black or white, I only saw an orange Jersey with the number 7 on it and wore it constantly.” That of course was Holloway’s Jersey number, who Chesney has idolized, respected and been inspired by his whole life, so when ESPN was putting together a series called “Year of the Quarterback” he jumped at the chance to produce and narrate a documentary about his boyhood idol. Chesney who produced ‘The Boys of Fall’ a high school football documentary previously said he learned a thing or two about producing movies from all those music videos he does but added, “I love making films but I’m done for a while unless something that I’m passionate about comes along. I must be passionate. I’m a huge sports fan and Condredge’s story was an important one to tell but I’m happy to get back to my day job.” Holloway, who won consecutive three Bowl games from 1972-1974 and was one of the top quarterbacks in the NCAA, is now assistant coach at the University of Tennessee. ‘The Color Orange: Condredge Holloway Story’ produced by Chesney and executive producer John Dahl premieres Sunday, February 20th at 8pm ET on ESPN.
