Diane von Furstenberg, the designer behind the incredible DVF brand who has had a major influence on women’s fashion and is best known for her iconic wrap dress, appeared on The Early Show to discuss the inception and creation of ‘Fashion’s Night Out,’ which took place Friday, September 10th here in NYC and all over the world. Diane said that the idea of having a fashion night out came about two years when she and Vogue’s famed editor Anna Wintour met in Paris and talked about the big economic crisis that was happening. They wanted to come up with an exciting idea of how they could help and that’s when Anna came up the idea of bringing the designers in to the shops and to the consumers. And to make it really exciting and inviting, many of the hundreds of stores in the city that took part had celebrities, music and food to make it a real celebration for the customers to want to shop and support the fashion and retail industries throughout the city and around the globe. The fashion industry is the second largest industry in NY. Some of the celebrities that showed support included Jessica Alba, Mary J. Blige, Jeremy Piven and Sarah Jessica Parker. For a behind the scenes look at ‘Fashion’s Night Out,’ tune in to CBS on Tuesday, September 14th at 10p.
