Want some schmaltz prepared with some funny shtick served on a silver platter? No, im not talking about the nova scotia lox at Russ & Daughters Appetizing on the Lower East Side, Im talking about the new outrageous play on Broadway starring Dame Edna and Michael Feinstein, All About Me. The play, at the newly renovated and gorgeous Henry Miller Theatre, centers around two entertainers who stubbornly come together to share one stage. Feinstein the adorable piano crooner and “Ambassador of the Greatest American Songbook” and Dame Edna the brash comic character created and played by Australian comedian Barry Humphries, do sort of an odd couple variety show full of great tunes and great humor. The play moves fast and is totally fun and entertaining. Just ask all of NY’s high society who came out with bells on including Barbara Walters wearing signature red who sat with Cindy Adams and Judge Judy Sheindlin and her hubby Jerry. All the VIP’s attended the elegant after party at Patina Restaurant Group’s delicious Brasserie 8/12 including Michelle Lee of Knots Landing Fame still looking stunning after all these years. However, the kicker of the night for me was talking with the spectacular and phenomenal talent and probably the greatest entertainer of all time Liza Minnelli. Gorgeous and wickedely cool, we talked about show business for 10 minutes right off the red carpet (Liza skipped the photo ops) and I even helped Liza bum a cigarette from a fan off the street right before she was wisked away to her seat. If you want to laugh and sing, grab and friend and see All About Me.
