Recently, just days before their Grammy appearance, legendary rockers Bono and the Edge of U2 broke out of their residency at The Sphere to party with their crew at Las Vegas’ legendary tiki bar The Golden Tiki.

The rockers checked out the bar in the wee hours on a recommendation from staffers at the Sphere, taking in some classic tiki drinks, margaritas, Dole whip, and the bar’s famous “sticky” chicken fingers and coconut shrimp.

Sightings like this are a relative rarity for U2–the band have not been seen at very many places around town during their residency!

Open since 2015, The Golden Tiki is famous as the home for the World’s Largest Mai Tai and for its many shrunken heads presented to Vegas icons and celebrities including rockers like Sammy Hagar,Sebastian Bach, Motley Crue’s Vince Neil, and Pantera’s Vinnie Paul, Playboy Playmate Claire Sinclair, comedians Pauly Shore Louie Anderson, Tape Face, Rich Little Piff the Magic Dragon and Carrot Top, actors Bryan Cranston & Aaron Paul, UFC legend Randy Couture, the late celebrity journalist Robin Leach and dozens more.

The Fall Guy starring Ryan Gosling, Emily Blunt in theaters March 1

the fall guy, ryan gosling, emily blunt, new york gossp gal

He’s a stuntman, and like everyone in the stunt community, he gets blown up, shot, crashed, thrown through windows and dropped from the highest of heights, all for our entertainment. And now, fresh off an almost career-ending accident, this working-class hero has to track down a missing movie star, solve a conspiracy and try to win back the love of his life while still doing his day job. What could possibly go right?

From real life stunt man and director David Leitch, the blockbuster director of Bullet TrainDeadpool 2Atomic Blonde and Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw and the producer of John WickNobody and Violent Night, comes his most personal film yet. A new hilarious, hard-driving, all-star apex-action thriller and love letter to action movies and the hard-working and under-appreciated crew of people who make them: The Fall Guy

Oscar® nominee Ryan Gosling (BarbieLa La LandDrive) stars as Colt Seavers, a battle-scarred stuntman who, having left the business a year earlier to focus on both his physical and mental health, is drafted back into service when the star of a mega-budget studio movie—being directed by his ex, Jody Moreno, played by Golden Globe winner Emily Blunt (OppenheimerA Quiet Place films, Sicario)—goes missing.

While the film’s ruthless producer (Emmy winner Hannah Waddingham; Ted Lasso), maneuvers to keep the disappearance of star Tom Ryder (Golden Globe winner Aaron Taylor-Johnson; Bullet Train) a secret from the studio and the media, Colt performs the film’s most outrageous stunts while trying (with limited success) to charm his way back into Jody’s good graces. But as the mystery around the missing star deepens, Colt will find himself ensnared in a sinister, criminal plot that will push him to the edge of a fall more dangerous than any stunt.

Inspired by the hit 1980s TV series, The Fall Guy also stars Winston Duke (Black Panther franchise) and Academy Award® nominee Stephanie Hsu (Everything Everywhere All at Once).

From a screenplay by Hobbs & Shaw screenwriter Drew Pearce, The Fall Guy is produced by Kelly McCormick (Bullet TrainNobodyAtomic Blonde) and David Leitch for their company 87North, and by Ryan Gosling and by Guymon Casady (Game of ThronesSteve Jobs and executive producer of the upcoming series Ripley) for Entertainment 360. The film is executive produced by Drew Pearce, Entertainment 360’s Geoff Shaevitz and the creator of the original Fall Guy television series, Glen A. Larson.

Fête for Alice Kandell’s Tibetan Shrine as it heads to Minneapolis Institute of Art

Alice Kandell offered a last visit to her private Tibetan Shrine room to fifty friends and experts before it was packed and moved to the Minneapolis Institute of Art (Mia), a generous donation that will go on view during the summer of 2024, exactly as it was in her home on the upper east side.

“I’d like to ask you all to join me in a toast to Alice Kandel and her Shrine”, said Dr. Katherine Luber, Mia’s Nivin and Duncan MacMillan director and president. “It’s wonderful to be gathered here together on this auspicious occasion.  Alice Kandell has made an extraordinary gift to the Minneapolis Institute of Art.  Our museum has long been known for its strength in Asian art, including the arts of China and Japan. We’re building an incredible collection of South Asian art, too. Now, because of Alice’s generosity, we are going to be able to boast one of the great, great examples of Tibetan art.  Her gift is truly transformative. Please, all of us, all our friends, raise a glass together to celebrate Alice, her generosity, her passion for art. To Alice!”

All in white, Alice Kandell shared her history, “You’re probably all wondering why I started collecting Tibetan art. As a student at Sarah Lawrence College in the 60s, I was going on a class trip to Russia and one of my friends in the class wanted to put Tibet on the itinerary. My parents objected because of the unrest related to the Chinese occupation there. A close friend, Hope Cooke, tried anyways and got as far as India. There she met the Crown Prince of Sikkim (an independent Buddhist country bordering Tibet), and eventually, she married him. In the course of time, while I was still a graduate student at Harvard, the King of Sikkim died, and I received an invitation to Hope’s coronation and her husband King. I spoke to my professor asking for a leave of absence and he sagely said., ‘when fantasy becomes reality, a member of the Harvard Psychology Department should be there to witness’. Inspired by the beauty of the country, I returned many times after.”

Alice Kendell’s gift consists of over two hundred historic Tibetan Buddhist art objects – gilt bronze statuary, paintings of spiritual realms, ritual implements, furniture, and textiles – that will be installed in Mia’s Himalayan art galleries.. Her Shrine Room will be exhibited as it would have in an aristocratic family home or small temple in Tibet’s past.  This is the second time Alice has given a significant collection to a public institution; The Tibetan Buddhist shrine room at The Smithsonian’s National Museum of Asian Art was a gift in 2010.

Guests included many members of the Mia’s board of directors, scholars, curators, as well as Jonah Bokaer, Simon Van Booy, Catherine Crockett and Biran Weston, Isabella Rupa De Conti-Mikkilineni, Lee Fryd, Michèle Gerber Klein, Helen Little, Ken Lipper,  Arthur Lubow, Ellie Manko, Geeta Mehta, Liane Pei, Father Philip Rodko, Dr. Bradley Strauchen-Scherer, John Bigelow Taylor, Barbara Tober, and Amei Wallach.
