Global Strays charity held its inaugural fundraiser at the Rumpus Room in New York City last week.

Founded by young New Yorkers Elizabeth Shafiroff and Lindsey Spielfogel, the cause focuses on improving the lives of dogs and cats in developing nations.

Emcee Rita Cosby presented the idea and goals of the Charity as well as its co-founders Elizabeth Shafiroff and Lindsey Spielfogel.

Ms. Shafiroff, daughter of noted New York philanthropist Jean Shafiroff, who sits on the organization’s board, says that a recent trip to Nicaragua left her “horrified with the treatment of animals.”

That horror compelled her to make a difference. She teamed up with Ms. Spielfogel and created a nonprofit devoted to providing grants to animal welfare organizations in developing nations.

Guests who came out to support the worthy cause included Tomaczek Bednareck, Craig Dix, Lucia Hwong Gordon, Michele Herbert, Carl and Valerie Kempner, Rory Lipman, Dimitra Molossi, Maggie Norris, Sammie Jack Pressman, Victor de Souza, Betsy Spielfogal, Ike Ude, and Martin & Jean Shafiroff.

Proceeds from the fundraiser will go to partner organizations in Central America, as well as Social Tees Animal Rescue Foundation, an organization that rescues animals from high kill shelters across the United States.
