Mercado Global‘s Board Member Yaz Hernandez, former fashion industry executive and philanthropist, hosted a cocktail party for 75 guests at her home to meet the organization’s Executive Director, Ruth DeGolia.

Mercado Global empowers indigenous women to overcome poverty and become agents of change in their communities.

By connecting women to design support and sales opportunities with international retailers, they are then able to earn a living wage. Women become leaders in their communities and are able to send their children to school, buy more nutritious food, and save for the future.
Mercado Global continues to be a leader in the ethical fashion space through new collaborations with Nordstrom, Target, Everything But Water, and Garnet Hill, to name a few.

Guest list included: Rachel Alonso-Mendoza, Frederick Anderson & Dmitry Astashenok, Gabriel Rivera Barraza, Elizabeth Baliey, Beatriz Colon, Donna Corbat, Edmundo Castillo, Ruth DeGolia, Marina Dobreva,  Dr. Jane Galasso, Michele Gerber Klein, Sallie Giordano, Valentin Hernandez, Sharon Handler Loeb, Aimee and William Maroney, Dr. John Mesa, Elizabeth Musmanno, Lara Meiland-Shaw, Othon Prounis and Kathy Prounis, Leticia Pittman Presutti & Rick Presutti, PJ Pascual, Sana H. Sabbagh, Alexandra Seegers, Leslie Sardinias, Maria Soler, Felicia Taylor and Carmen Torruella.

There will be a Fall benefit this year celebrating the launch of Mercado Global’s three-year scaling campaign to bring on 1,000 new artisans and expand their market access and sales program to new heights. This special night will be an opportunity to build momentum as we embark on this ambitious vision to empower more women in Guatemala.
