No one was more surprised than rock star Bono when he was told he would be the first man ever to be honored at the Glamour Women of the Year awards.

Presented by funny lady Amy Poehler, the 57-year old U2 frontman accompanied by his beautiful family, was recognized for his global activism.

The philanthropic music genius said: “I know how ridiculous it is for me to be on this stage, accepting this award,” he said. “But if I didn’t know how ridiculous it was, I did have the blessed Internet to remind me.”

Prior to the event, many online had a field day with why a man would be honored.

“I’ll tell you the real reason that I’m here. It’s one of the tiny, few awards that caused excitement in our house and stopped the usual dinner conversation and started… a conversation that unless we address this problem, both women and men together, our world will continue down this misogynistic, violent and impoverished path.”

Bono is cofounder of One, a nonprofit that aims to reduce global poverty, with emphasis on women in poverty. The frontman for U2 co-founded the nonprofit advocacy group in 2004, with the slogan “Make Poverty History.”
