Great news for New Yorkers who have been looking for singer-songwriter Sophie B Hawkins. She’s just moved back to New York after years of living in California.

Now 47, Hawkins ferociously blew onto the 90’s music scene with hits like ‘Damn! I Wish I was Your Lover’, ‘Right Beside You’ and ‘As I Lay Me Down’ which all lead to a Grammy for Best New Artist.

Caught her recently doing an intimate gig at NY’s hip Rockwood Music Hall where she wowed us for over an hour with oldies; including songs of Janis Joplin, new goodies, and gave us a taste of perhaps some future Broadway tunes.

Hawkins, who always identified with Joplin, played her to critical acclaim in a 4-month run last year at the Macha Theatre in West Hollywood.

An amazing musician, accomplished painter, and mother to a young son, her intensity, passion and humor always shine through, she’s interesting and knows to grab you right in.  Fun show.

A big Hillary Clinton supporter, back in 2008 Hawkins re-recorded her hit ‘Damn’ I Wish i Was Your Lover’ to ‘Damn, We Wish You Were President” in support of the presidential candidate, who went on to be Secretary of State under President Obama.

Hawkins also wrote in her blog, “Hillary Clinton’s achievements come from her heart. She has initiated so much positive change for families, children, victims of crime and the environment in her struggle for the forward movement of America and the working people of this nation.”
