The United Nations High Representative for the Alliance of Civilizations, Mr. Nassir Abdulaziz Al-Nasser, reiterated his plea for global peace at a gathering celebrating the launch of his book: A Year at the Helm of the United Nations General Assembly.

The reception held at NYU President John Sexton’s Penthouse with a massive terrace of extraordinary views, was attended by many including Professor Mustapha Tlili, Founder of NYU Center for Dialogues, Professor Farhan Nizami, Director of Oxford Center for Islamic Studies, Professor Vitali Numkin, Chair at the Faculty of World Politics at Moscow University, as well as a number of diplomats, UN officials , and journalists.

Al Nasser’s wife Muna-Rihani, one of the organizers of UN’s Women for Peace march earlier in the year, was stunning in her elegant top-sheered black dress and magnificent heels, and posed for pictures with the VIP’s. Best dressed list anyone??

Other notable guests listening to Al-Nasser discuss his commitment to promoting a culture of peace, tolerance, and dialogue, an issue that he took to heart as President of the 66th Session of the General Assembly and continues to uphold today included: Lina Abdul, Fareed Abdul, Maged Abdulaziz, Stefano & Carol Acunto, Tariq Al-Ansari, Abdallah Al-Mouallimi, Muna Rihani Al-Nasser, Mariam Azarm, Edgar Batista, Geoffrey Bradfield, James Finkelstein, Rick Friedberg & Francine LeFrak, Tariq Al-Ansari, Allan Goodman, Susan Gutfreund, Roger Hamilton-Martin, Mike Hardy, Charles & Nancy Hoppin, Jana Jaffe, Peter Kimmelman, Thomas F. In his book, published by NYU Press, Al-Nasser chronicles the events of a dynamic year (2011-2012) during which he presided over the 66th session of the General Assembly, and reflects on a wide range of global challenges that were addressed during that session ranging from political transformations and financier crises to natural disasters and humanitarian issues.

This commitment emanates from his belief that global efforts towards peace and reconciliation can only succeed through a collective approach built on trust, dialogue and collaboration. He stressed that he is determined to advance the noble goals of the Alliance to preserve international peace and security and promote tolerance and moderation, particularly against the backdrop of the rising forces of radicalism.
