is not only a great basketball player, he’s a great person.

The NY Knicks superstar known as “Melo” will be handing out school supplies for his 2nd annual Tools For Teachers Initiative, where teachers from all five NYC boroughs will be present to pick up school supplies for their students.

School supplies will be distributed to an estimated 250 teachers in an effort to enhance learning opportunities and aid teachers in providing the best education possible.

The schools have been selected based on test scores within under privileged communities. Anthony recognizes the importance of education and The Carmelo Anthony Foundation is the vehicle by which he gives back to the community through a variety of outreach programs and donations.

Tools For Teachers joins several other established foundation initiatives, including Courts 4 Kids, A Very Melo Give Back and A Very Melo Christmas. Courts 4 Kids refurbishes basketball courts in underserved areas. The first court was completed in the summer of 2009 in Syracuse (pictured), and since then several more have been refurbished including one in New York City and five in Puerto Rico, as part of Anthony’s A Very Melo Weekend event held each summer.

In partnership with Feed The Children and local community agencies, Anthony’s GiveBack program has provided over 5000 families in need with food and personal supplies during the holidays and times of natural disaster. Deserving middle school students also benefit from Anthony’s annual A Very Melo Christmas charity event, where the foundation celebrates children who have contributed to their community.
