Celebrated writer and poet MAYA ANGELOU has died at the age of 86.

The beloved star who I first became familiar with years ago through Oprah Winfrey’s constant praise, passed away on Wednesday morning just days after cancelling an appearance at a tribute event due to health troubles.

I wrote about the longtime civil-rights activist this past January when she spoke about race relations at the Congregation B’nai Israel in Boca Raton, Florida. (pictured)

She was a super-force who also has actress, singer and dancer to her long distinguished resume.

Known for her famous quotes and words of wisdom, my favorite is “when people show you who they are, believe them.”

Words to live by.

Rest in peace great one.
