Representing a hybrid between a traditional film festival and an audience participation event, FIRST TIME FEST happening in NYC from March 1-4, is a celebration of first time filmmakers. The mission is to discover and present the next generation of great filmmakers both locally and globally.

Legendary director Martin Scorsese, will present the first John Huston Award for Outstanding Achievement in Cinema to Darren Aronofsky at a special ceremony at the Closing Night party on Monday, March 4.

After his remarkable debut film Pi, he went on to make such ambitious and adventurous films as Requiem for a Dream, The Fountain, The Wrestler,  and Black Swan.

The award is named in honor of one of America’s greatest filmmakers. John Huston, once called “the eccentric’s eccentric” by Paul Newman, was an extraordinary actor, director, writer, and producer who created some of the most memorable films in history, including The Treasure of the Sierra Madre, Key Largo, The African Queen, The Asphalt Jungle, The Red Badge of Courage, Moulin Rouge, Moby Dick, The Unforgiven, The Misfits, Freud, The Night of the Iguana, Fat City, The Life and Times of Judge Roy Bean, The Man Who Would Be King, Under the Volcano, Prizzi’s Honor, and The Dead, in addition to his memorable performances in films like Casino Royale, Myra Breckinridge, and Chinatown.

He won two Academy Awards and was nominated for thirteen more, and was the recipient of the American Film Institute’s Life Achievement Award.  Huston was also an ardent supporter of human rights.
