Exclusive: Al Roker Hosting Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade Talks Turkey, Tradition, Ann Curry
One of America’s favorite weathermen as well as featured anchor on NBC News’ ‘Today’ Al Roker, is hosting once again the historical Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade celebrating its 85th anniversary Thursday, November 24 beginning at 9am ET.
Once again, this amazing show will have something for everyone.
The live broadcast will begin with Broadway and the shows featured are Spiderman: Turn out the Dark, Sister Act, How to Succeed in Business w Daniel Radcliff performing, and Priscilla Queen of the Desert.
10,000 will be marching, 1900 dancers, 27 floats and 16 giant balloons with some never seen before. Plus 800 clowns, Neil Diamond, Michael Feinstein, Mary J. Blige, Shelby Lynne, Cee Lo Green, Barney, Smokey the Bear, and even Al’s co-anchor Ann Curry who just replaced Meredith Vieira will join him in the booth for some good morning fodder.
Said Al, “Having Ann in the booth will be great. Ann is joyful, playful and Ann is a wonderful morning.”
What is it about the parade that keeps everyone coming back each year? “Everybody has a Thanksgiving memory for most people that memory is kicked off by the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. The tradition never grows old.”
“What’s your favorite character Al? “I love Sponge Bob.”
Most importantly, what is Al thankful for this year.
“I’m thankful for the health of folks I know, you know my family and friends. I’m thankful I have a job to go to. And that as bad as things can be this is one of the greatest countries in the world.”
I know you all want to know where Al is celebrating after the parade is over.
“I’m going to my brothers in Scarsdale, he and his wife are hosting 30 family and friends.
And finally, what will Al go for first during the feast? “Dark meat turkey and stuffing can’t go wrong.”
