One of the most exciting new places that opened downtown is The Darby which takes the term supper club to a roaring new level. Modern with and old fashioned essence, The Darby on way chic West 14th Street with superb cooking from Food Network ace Alex Guarnaschelli, (Butter) is a jewel of a dining and entertainment experience. The Darby Band, a throwback to the 50’s and 60’s swank brat pack days of cabaret style jazz and R&B with killer lady singers swinging us back with standards, along with wild, radio worthy versions of today’s top hits, had us moving and grooving throughout our delicious meal of Caesar salad, to die for calamari, decadent mac and cheese and luscious brussel sprouts. And that just describes our appetizers and side dishes. The creative main dishes include seafood, meats and vegetarian dishes as well Tomahawk Steak and Lobster Newburg for two and a mouthwatering Baked Alaska that goes great with the top shelf attentive staff, gorgeous décor and special atmosphere. Celebrity biggies Charlize Theron, Leo DiCaprio and Gerard Butler have all checked it out already as has NY’s King and Queen of music Jay-Z and Beyonce who celebrated her 29th birthday there. Even foodie, Chef Marc Murphy owner of NYC’s cool and successful Landmarc Restaurants and Guarnaschelli’s co-judge on Food Networks ‘Chopped’ was there and told me he was having a great time. If reservations are hard to come by do stop by for drinks, you’re gonna dig it.
