Film aficionados everywhere will be happy when they see the line- up that the Film Society of Lincoln Center has coming up. The pioneer organization with one of the most respected and influential arbiters of cinema will be showing together with the MIAAC – Mahindra Indo-American Arts Council: Bhumika: The Roles of Smita Patil. One of Indian cinema’s brightest stars during the 70’s and 80’s, Smita Patil, who was mostly known for her noted work in “Manthan,” “Bhumika,” “Askrosh” and “Chakra,” was also deeply committed to the advancement of women’s issues. The talented actress, who was labeled a “home breaker” after breaking up the marriage to actor Raj Babbar, died a tragic death soon after from childbirth complications at the ripe young age of 31.
